Short answer: there's one more click in your Stripe Dashboard. When Payment for Stripe disconnects your account, Stripe asks you to finish the handoff. Until you do, your account still shows as controlled by Payment — and other apps like WooCommerce, MemberPress, or Pretix can't connect to it.
You'll see a banner like this in your Stripe Dashboard:
How to finish the transition
- Log in to the Stripe Dashboard in a web browser.
- Find the banner that says Complete transition from Payment to manage settings.
- Click Transition account and confirm.
That's it. Your account is a regular Stripe account again, and you can connect whichever platform you like.
Not seeing the banner?
First, make sure the disconnect went through: open Connected applications in your Stripe Dashboard. If Payment for Stripe is still listed, disconnect it at payment.co/disconnect, then come back for the banner. If it isn't listed and Stripe still says your account is controlled, reply to us with your Stripe account ID (it starts with acct_) and we'll sort it out with Stripe.
Created your Stripe account inside the Payment app or our S700 setup?
Those accounts are set up through Payment for Stripe, so releasing one can take an extra step on Stripe's side. Send us your account ID and we'll handle it.
Will I lose anything?
No. Your payments, payouts, customers, and products all stay in your Stripe account. Only Payment's access is removed.
Want to come back later?
Finish the transition first, then sign in to the Payment app again.
