Installing the standalone Payment app directly onto the Stripe Reader S700/S710

The Stripe Reader S700/S710 is an all-in-one smart terminal that runs Payment for Stripe directly on the device, without a separate phone or tablet.

Start with the account requirement — it catches most people out. Running the app on the reader needs a Stripe account with platform controls enabled, which in practice means an account we create for you through the setup wizard. A Stripe account you set up yourself can't have platform controls added later. That's a Stripe limitation, not a switch we can flip. The account the wizard creates is separate from any Stripe account you already have, with its own balance and its own payouts.

If you'd rather keep everything in the Stripe account you already use, you can still put the S700 or S710 to work — pair it to your phone or tablet and run the app there instead.

Setup steps:

1. Order your S700 or S710 — Purchase from your Stripe Dashboard, choosing between WiFi-only (S700) or WiFi + cellular (S710) models.
2. Run the setup wizard — It creates your account and registers the reader using the pairing code generated on the device.
3. App installs automatically — Payment for Stripe downloads to the reader once it's registered. No setup required.
4. Start selling — Sign in on the device with the account the wizard created and take your first payment.

You only do this once per business. Adding more readers later doesn't need a new account.
