Short answer: Sign out of Payment for Stripe and sign back in. A 403 means the app's connection to your Stripe account is no longer valid. Signing in again reconnects it. If the message says you've made too many requests, wait a few minutes first.
Why it happens
-
HTTP 403 (or 401): Stripe no longer accepts the app's saved sign-in for your account. This can happen when the sign-in expired or when access to the app was revoked on the Stripe side. On Android the app signs you out and shows one of these:
Authorization failed
On iPhone it signs you out and shows a message like this:Signed out
Your session has expired. Please sign in again.
There was a problem with your Stripe account. Please try logging in again to reconnect the Payment app to your Stripe account.
-
Too many requests (the rate_limit error): the app sent a lot of requests in a short time, and the server asked it to slow down. You may see this message:
Several devices on the same network can add up to the same limit.Too many requests — wait a minute and try again
Fix a 403 or a sign-in error
- Tap Sign in with Stripe and sign in again with the same Stripe account. Your products and payment history are stored in Stripe, not on the phone.
- If the app didn't sign you out on its own, open the menu, log out (Logout on iPhone, Log out on Android), then sign in again.
- Update Payment for Stripe from the App Store or Google Play, and try the charge again.
- Still getting 403 after signing in again? Check that you signed in to the right Stripe account. See Can't log in?.
Fix "too many requests"
- Wait a few minutes, then try again.
- If many devices share one Wi-Fi network, try one device on mobile data.
