Hide products from the app with metadata

Short answer: Add the metadata key payment_hidden with the value true to a product or price in your Stripe Dashboard. Payment for Stripe stops listing it on iPhone and Android. Nothing else changes in Stripe.

It's handy for items you only sell online, like Shopify or Payment Links products, that you don't want cluttering the product list at the counter.

payment_hidden = true

Where you set it decides what's hidden

  • On a product: hides the product and every one of its prices.
  • On a price: hides only that price. The product's other prices still show.

Add it in the Stripe Dashboard

  1. Open your product catalog in the Stripe Dashboard.
  2. Pick the product. To hide a single price, open that price instead.
  3. Find the Metadata section and edit it.
  4. Add a key payment_hidden with the value true, then save.

Using the Stripe API instead? Set the same key on the product or price:

{
  "metadata": {
    "payment_hidden": "true"
  }
}

The value isn't case-sensitive, so TRUE works. Any other value, like false, leaves the item visible.

Show it again

Delete the key, or set it to false. The change shows up the next time the app loads your products.

Good to know

  • Hidden items also drop out of search in the app.
  • It only affects what the app lists. Your Stripe catalog, online store, and existing subscriptions keep working.
  • payment://cart links that name a hidden price still work. See Launch Payment for Stripe from your app (URL schemes).
