How do I record cash payments?

Short answer: turn on Allow cash payments in Settings, then tap the … button next to Charge and choose Cash payment. No card is charged. No fee applies. The sale is saved in your Stripe account as a paid invoice, so every sale — card or cash — lives in one place.

How do I turn it on?

1. Open Settings.
2. Under Payments, turn on Allow cash payments.

It's a per-device setting, so turn it on for each phone or tablet that takes cash.

How do I record a cash sale?

1. Type an amount or add products to your cart, just like a card sale.
2. Tap the … button next to Charge.
3. Choose Cash payment.
4. Want to send a receipt? Add a name and email (both optional).
5. Tap Record cash payment.

You'll see the usual confirmation screen with a Paid in cash label where the card would normally show.

Can my customer get a receipt?
Yes. On the confirmation screen, tap Send receipt and share the link by text, email or any app on your phone. Your customer opens it and taps Download receipt. The receipt shows the amount paid and "Paid in cash."

Where do I find my cash sales?

• In the app: open the Stripe menu and choose Cash Payments (right below Invoices). Your recorded cash sales show there, newest first.
• In the Stripe Dashboard: head to Invoices. Every cash sale is a paid invoice with the memo "Paid in cash."
• Totals for your bookkeeping: in the Dashboard, open Invoices and tap Export. In the file, filter the payment_type (metadata) column to cash and add up Amount Paid.

Why don't cash sales show up in Gross volume or my card totals?
Because Stripe didn't process them. Gross volume, the Payments export and the sales summary in the app only count card payments that ran through Stripe. That's by design — your card totals still match your payouts.

What does "Paid out of band" mean?
It's Stripe's label for a payment that happened outside Stripe. You'll see it next to cash sales in your Payments list. (Card sales with products also create a "Paid out of band" invoice as a bookkeeping record — the easy tell is that cash invoices say "Paid in cash.")

Does it cost anything?
No. There's no card fee, no app fee and no Stripe Invoicing fee on cash sales.

Anything it can't do yet?

• Cash sales need an internet connection. The option is hidden while you're offline.
• Refunds happen in the Stripe Dashboard: open the invoice and issue a credit note.
• Tips and service fees don't apply to cash sales.
• Subscriptions can't be paid in cash.

Works on both iPhone and Android. Just update to the latest version of Payment for Stripe.
