Short answer: this is normal, and no money moved. The canceled row is an empty placeholder — your customer was charged once, and that charge went through.
When you ring up products in PAYMENT and take payment on a card reader or with Tap to Pay, two rows land in your Stripe Dashboard:
- The payment — your customer's card, succeeded, for the amount you rang up.
- A canceled payment for the same amount, named after the invoice (something like "Invoice A1B2C3D4-0001").
Only the first one is real money. The second never had a card attached to it.
Did my customer get charged twice?
No. A canceled payment never touches a card. Your payout reflects the one successful charge.
Then why does it exist?
Stripe gives every invoice an empty payment slot the moment it's finalized. That's Stripe's behavior, not something the app asks for. Your card reader payment is what actually collects the money, so that empty slot gets closed out a second later.
How do I tell it apart from a payment that actually failed?
- It's named after an invoice number, not your products.
- Its amount matches a successful payment from a few seconds earlier.
- Its status is Canceled, not Incomplete. Incomplete means a card was never read — that one's worth a look.
Will it affect my reports or my payout?
No. Canceled payments carry no money, so they're not in your totals and not in your payout.
Can I hide them?
Open Payments in your Stripe Dashboard and filter by status — choose Succeeded to see only real charges.
