How can I make a test charge?

Short answer: Charge a small amount, like $1.00, to your own card, then refund it from the success screen. It takes about a minute.

1. Type 1.00 on the keypad.

   

2. Tap Next (Android: Charge) and pay with your own card: tap or insert it on your reader, use Tap to Pay, or type it in.
3. On the success screen, tap …, then Refund.

   

A test charge is a real charge, so fees apply. Refunding it in the app returns our app fee, but Stripe's processing fee (in the U.S., 2.7% + 5¢ in person or 2.9% + 30¢ for a typed card) is set and kept by Stripe and is not returned.

Accounts created on or after September 9, 2026 have a 15¢ minimum app fee per transaction, so a $1.00 test charge is charged 15¢ rather than 1.2%. Accounts created before that date are charged 1.2% with no minimum.

There's no test mode in the app. Every charge is real.
