Add a surcharge or service fee

Short answer: Yes. Set a service fee percentage in Settings and Payment for Stripe adds it to every card sale automatically.

To turn it on:

  1. Open Settings and scroll to the Taxes, Gratuity & Fees section (on Android: Taxes, gratuity & fees).
  2. Tap Service Fee (on Android: Service fee).

Settings: Taxes, Gratuity & Fees section with Service Fee set to 3%

  3. Enter a percentage, like 3 or 3.5, and save. You can use up to two decimals.

To turn it off, clear the field (on Android, tap Clear) or enter 0.

How it shows up:

  • The fee is added on top of the sale, as a percentage of the amount. On Android the amount screen shows it as "+ 3% service fee".
  • It appears as its own Service fee line on the sale review screen, the result screen, and the receipt, so your customer sees exactly what it is.

Sale review: two items, a Service Fee (3%) line and the total

  • On sales that use products, it's added to the invoice in Stripe as a line called "Service Fee" with the percentage.

Can I set a different fee for each sale?
No. It's one percentage for the whole device, and it applies to every sale until you change it.

Why is the field locked?
If you see "Set by your organization," your organization set the fee for all staff devices. Ask them to change it.
