Remove or disconnect a reader

Short answer: You disconnect a reader in the app, and you remove a smart reader from your account in your Stripe Dashboard. Disconnecting doesn't delete the reader or touch your payments. You can reconnect it any time.

Disconnect a reader in the app

On iPhone:

  1. Open the app menu.
  2. Find your reader's name under the card reader section. It says Tap to disconnect.

  3. Tap it. You'll see "Reader disconnected."

On Android:

  1. Tap the reader button at the top of the keypad (it shows your reader's name).
  2. Tap Disconnect reader.

On iPhone, the app also stops auto-connecting to that reader, so it won't reconnect the next time you open the app.

Remove a smart reader from your account

Smart readers (Stripe Reader S700, S710, and T600, and BBPOS WisePOS E) are registered to a location in your Stripe account. The app can't unregister them. To remove one, sign in to your Stripe Dashboard and open the Terminal Readers page, where every registered reader is listed.

Bluetooth readers (Stripe Reader M2, BBPOS WisePad 3) don't need removing. Disconnect them in the app, then turn them off.

Reader connected to another device?
A reader works with one device at a time. If the app says it's connected to another device, disconnect it there first.
