In short: for some payments your customer may be asked to confirm their identity — a one-time SMS code, a banking-app approval, or a card-network prompt. When that happens, the app walks them through it before the charge completes. Here's an example:
Where it applies: SCA has been required in the European Economic Area since 2021, and 3DS can be triggered on cards anywhere depending on the bank. So even outside the EEA you may occasionally see one of these prompts — it's normal, and the app handles it for you.
